What is a virtual private network?

  • Updated

A VPN (virtual private network) protects your connection, ensures anonymity online, and lets you change the virtual location of your device, which helps to access geo-restricted content.

To explain it in more detail, a VPN creates a secure tunnel between your device and the internet. By doing so, it extends your private network across a public network and encrypts the shared and received data on your device. That makes it look like you are browsing directly from the VPN server, changing your IP address, and making you anonymous online!

With a premium Atlas VPN subscription, you can benefit from the usual VPN capabilities, as well as our additional security features. One of the advantages of a premium subscription is the different server types:

    • The SafeSwap server type lets you access the internet from several IP addresses at a time.

    • The Streaming server type helps you access your favorite streaming websites with higher speeds, therefore you can watch higher quality content than with your usual VPN provider.

    • The MultiHop+ server type adds an extra layer of security by connecting one VPN server to another.

Note: you can find more information on the mentioned server types here.
