  • Updated

In this guide, we will go through the installation process of the Atlas VPN application on macOS devices. This app is a simple way to secure your internet traffic and bypass various geo-restrictions on your macOS device.

Note: the Atlas VPN application is only available on macOS 11.0 or later. Older versions of macOS are not supported.

Atlas VPN no longer supports updates past the 2.7.1 version of the app on macOS 10.15 - if you are using this version of macOS, you will only be able to download the 2.7.1 version of Atlas VPN.

Contents of the guide:

  1. Downloading and installing the app
  2. Logging in
  3. Connecting

Downloading and installing the app

  1. To start, head to this page and click on Download free. This will redirect you to the App Store where you will be able to install the Atlas VPN app.
  2. Once you are on the App Store page, click on Get, or the cloud icon to download and install the app. You may be asked to confirm this with Touch ID or your Apple ID password.

  3. The installation process is fully automatic and once it is complete, the Atlas VPN app icon will appear on your Launchpad.

Note: the appearance of the App Store as well as the Atlas VPN app will depend on the color/theme settings on your macOS device.

Logging in

  1. If you already have an account with Atlas VPN, enter your email address, and click Log in.

  2. You will get a verification email, click the Confirm sign-in button to log in.

  3. Afterward, you will be redirected to the Atlas VPN app.

  4. Once you are logged in with an account that has a premium subscription, you will gain access to all of the server locations that we offer. If you wish to purchase a premium subscription, you can do so via the App Store or via our official website here.

Note: the registration process is the same as logging in if you do not have an account. Simply click Get started at the bottom of the application window and continue following the instructions.

  1. There are two ways to connect to a VPN server:

    • Clicking the Quick Connect button. This will connect you to your preferred server or a suitable server, which will be selected based on a few criteria, such as the distance to the server and the server load.

    • Clicking on a specific country in the list of servers. This will connect you to a server within the chosen area.

  2. After you connect to a VPN server, the connection status in your application will be changed to protected. When establishing a connection for the first time, you will be asked to authenticate this with your keychain password (the password that is set on your macOS device). This is needed so that the Atlas VPN app could create and manage a VPN tunnel.

  3. To disconnect from a server, you will need to click the Quick Connect button once more.
