Downloading and installing the app
To start, head to this page and click on Download now. This will redirect you to the App Store where you will be able to install the Atlas VPN app.
Note: the appearance of the App Store as well as the Atlas VPN app will depend on the color/theme settings on your macOS device.
Once you are on the App Store page, click on Get to download and install the app. You may be asked to confirm this with Touch ID or your Apple ID password.
The installation process is fully automatic and once it is complete, the Atlas VPN app icon will appear in your Launchpad, from there, you will be able to open the Atlas VPN application. When opening it for the first time, you will be greeted by the free version of our application which has a limited selection of servers.
Logging in and connecting
To log into your account, open the app settings by clicking the Settings option on the left side of the app window, then tap Sign In.
Once you enter your email address and click Sign in, a verification email will be sent to your inbox with a code that is used instead of a password.
Note: the screenshot is only an example and your code to complete the login process will be different.
Enter the code that you have received into the Atlas VPN application and you will be logged in.
You will be redirected back to the Settings tab of the app where you will be able to see your User ID as well as some information about your subscription if you have purchased a premium plan.
Once you are logged in with an account that has a premium subscription, you will gain access to all of the server locations that we offer. If you wish to purchase a premium subscription, you can do so via the App Store or via our official website here.
The registration process is the same as logging in if you do not have an account.
To connect to a VPN server, there are two options. You can click the Quick Connect button on the application window, which will select the best server according to a few criteria, those being distance to the server and server load, and will automatically connect you. Alternatively, you can click on a country in the server list which will connect you to a server in that specific location.
After you select a server based on your needs, or by using the quick connect feature, you will connect to a VPN server and the connection status in our application will change to protected. Do note that when establishing a connection for the first time, you will be asked to authenticate this with your keychain password (the password that is set on your macOS device). This is needed so that the Atlas VPN app could create and manage a VPN tunnel.
To disconnect from a server, you will need to click the Quick Connect button once more.
App settings overview
In the Settings tab, you will be able to see a few toggleable options - Start on Launch, Killswitch, Analytics, Safebrowse Plus, Show application in, and app Version number.
Here is a quick rundown of the options:
Start on Launch - once enabled, the Atlas VPN application will automatically start once you sign in to your macOS device.
Killswitch - this feature will disable the internet connection on your device if the VPN connection is unexpectedly interrupted. This ensures that no unsecured browsing can occur until the connection to a VPN server is restored.
Analytics - gathers basic information about the app for our developers such as errors and crash reports. No information is gathered outside the application in accordance with our strict no-logs policy.
Safebrowse Plus - an improved version of the Safebrowse feature. In addition to the malicious website blocking capabilities of Safebrowse, Safebrowse plus blocks ads as well.
