In this guide, we will go through the installation process of the Atlas VPN application on macOS devices. This app is a simple way to secure your internet traffic and bypass various geo-restrictions on your macOS device.
Note: the Atlas VPN application is only available on macOS 11.0 or later. Older versions of macOS are not supported.
Atlas VPN no longer supports updates past the 2.7.1 version of the app on macOS 10.15 - if you are using this version of macOS, you will only be able to download the 2.7.1 version of Atlas VPN.

Downloading and installing the app
- To start, head to this page and click on Download free. This will redirect you to the App Store where you will be able to install the Atlas VPN app.
- Once you are on the App Store page, click on Get, or the cloud icon to download and install the app. You may be asked to confirm this with Touch ID or your Apple ID password.
- The installation process is fully automatic and once it is complete, the Atlas VPN app icon will appear on your Launchpad.
Note: the appearance of the App Store as well as the Atlas VPN app will depend on the color/theme settings on your macOS device.
Logging in
- If you already have an account with Atlas VPN, enter your email address, and click Log in.
- You will get a verification email, click the Confirm sign-in button to log in.
- Afterward, you will be redirected to the Atlas VPN app.
- Once you are logged in with an account that has a premium subscription, you will gain access to all of the server locations that we offer. If you wish to purchase a premium subscription, you can do so via the App Store or via our official website here.
Note: the registration process is the same as logging in if you do not have an account. Simply click Get started at the bottom of the application window and continue following the instructions.
Connecting
- There are two ways to connect to a VPN server:
- Clicking the Quick Connect button. This will connect you to your preferred server or a suitable server, which will be selected based on a few criteria, such as the distance to the server and the server load.
- Clicking on a specific country in the list of servers. This will connect you to a server within the chosen area.
- Clicking the Quick Connect button. This will connect you to your preferred server or a suitable server, which will be selected based on a few criteria, such as the distance to the server and the server load.
- After you connect to a VPN server, the connection status in your application will be changed to protected. When establishing a connection for the first time, you will be asked to authenticate this with your keychain password (the password that is set on your macOS device). This is needed so that the Atlas VPN app could create and manage a VPN tunnel.
- To disconnect from a server, you will need to click the Quick Connect button once more.
App settings overview
Once you click the Settings button, you will see a few options - Account, Security, Protocol, and App Settings.
The Account tab contains the User ID, information about the account, and the option to delete your account.

In the Security tab, you can find these options:

- Start on Launch - once enabled, the Atlas VPN application will automatically start once you sign in to your macOS device.
- Kill switch - this feature will disable the internet connection on your device if the VPN connection is unexpectedly interrupted. This ensures that no unsecured browsing can occur until the connection to a VPN server is restored.

In the Protocol tab, you can choose the connection protocol of the Atlas VPN application. It determines the establishment of encryption and the way data is transferred between your device and the VPN gateway.
By clicking on the App Settings tab, you can access these settings:

- App language - allows you to choose the language of the Atlas VPN application.
- Show application in - you can choose where the Atlas VPN application will be displayed.
- App appearance - lets you set the theme of the application.
- Analytics - gathers basic app information such as errors and crash reports for our developers. No information is gathered outside the application in accordance with our strict no-logs policy.
- Version number - displays the version of the Atlas VPN app you are using.
- App language - allows you to choose the language of the Atlas VPN application.
In the Connectivity tab, you will find these options:

- Quick-Connect - select a country you would like to be connected to after clicking the Quick-Connect button on the Home page of the application.
- Auto-Connect - with this feature enabled, once the app is launched, it connects to the last location of your previous session.

The Assistant section contains additional security features of Atlas VPN. These features are available with a premium subscription. Here is a quick rundown of the feature options:

- SafeBrowse - provides an extra layer of privacy while surfing the web. It protects you from Phishing, Spyware, Ransomware, CryptoJacking, and prevents you from accessing malicious websites while browsing online.
- Data Breach Monitor - a security feature designed to track any data breaches related to your online accounts. It automatically scans leaked databases and informs you of any past or recent breaches where your personal information was exposed.
- Protect my devices - helps to access the Atlas VPN app on different devices. After clicking on Send me a link, you will get an email containing download links for all available platforms.
- SafeBrowse - provides an extra layer of privacy while surfing the web. It protects you from Phishing, Spyware, Ransomware, CryptoJacking, and prevents you from accessing malicious websites while browsing online.
The Support section contains information and contacts, in case you encounter any sort of issues. Here is what you will find there:

- Help center - by clicking the Visit button, you will be redirected to the help center of Atlas VPN.
- Share activity log - once you click the Share log button, the diagnostics of the Atlas VPN app are sent to the customer support team.
- Privacy policy - clicking the Read more button will redirect you to our Privacy policy page.
- Terms of service - by clicking the Read more button you will access our Terms of service.
- Help center - by clicking the Visit button, you will be redirected to the help center of Atlas VPN.
