Data Breach Monitor feature

  • Updated

Data Breach Monitor is an Atlas VPN feature that tracks any data breaches related to your online accounts. It automatically scans leaked databases and informs you of any past or recent breaches where your personal information was exposed.

In this article, we will cover these topics:

What is a "data breach"?

A "breach" is a security violation where sensitive information is exposed without the authorization of the system's owner. Usually, that happens due to insufficient access control or security weaknesses in the software.

How do I check if my data has been breached?

Firstly, you will need a premium subscription to access this feature. If you would like to get a premium subscription, you can visit our order page and pick out the plan that suits you best!

  1. Once you open the AtlasVPN app on your device, navigate to the Assistant section.

  2. Select Data Breach Monitor and click on Add new email. You will see a pop-up window asking you to enter the email address you would like to protect.

  3. Enter the email, click Scan For Breaches, and give it a few seconds to check the leaked databases for information that matches yours.

  4. You will find all detected breaches in the New tab.

What to do if my personal details have been leaked?

Although the breach has already happened, don't worry, you can still protect yourself! First, we suggest not to use the breached password on your email account. If you are, change the password of your email ASAP – doing so will secure access to those breached accounts and you will always be able to recover them.

Once you have secured your email, you can proceed to get rid of those nasty breaches. Log into the websites where the breaches have occurred and change the passwords on all of them. Once you have done this, you can come back to the Atlas VPN application, find the breach that you have taken care of, and click on the button Move to archive.

What can I do to avoid this?

To ensure the safety of your accounts in the future, we strongly suggest having unique passwords for all of your online accounts. Also, make sure that you follow the information provided by Atlas VPN Data Breach Monitor and resolve all online breaches as soon as possible.
