Connecting from a country with internet restrictions

  • Updated
In case you are unable to connect to the VPN from China, try connecting to Netherlands or Poland locations.

Some countries have network restrictions that limit the content available online. VPN helps to avoid various restrictions, but restrictive countries often block VPN connections too.

Internet restrictions can be found in these countries: Bahrain, Belarus, China, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Myanmar, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, Turkmenistan, UAE, Uzbekistan.

Potential issues

ISPs can detect VPN connections by tracking the IP address and finding that it belongs to a VPN provider. Then, ISPs may block the IP address, interfere with the connection, or block the ports that are used to route the VPN traffic.

VPN users from countries with internet restrictions may experience these issues:

    • Slow internet connection speed;

    • Long connection time;

    • Being unable to connect;

    • Websites/apps not loading.

Troubleshooting steps

If you tried connecting from a country with internet restrictions and encountered issues in the process, please try the following steps:

  1. Connect to a few different locations and wait up to a minute before canceling the connection.

  2. Test out different VPN connection protocols.

  3. Try switching the network you are connected to. If you are connected to WiFi, try a mobile hotspot, or a different WiFi network.

We are looking for ways to improve the connection from restricted countries. In the meantime, if these solutions do not work, please contact our customer support team. We appreciate your patience!
